【Announcement】morning after cutting my hair has become a Certified B Corporation™

目次

morning after cutting my hair, Inc. has obtained B Corporation™ (B Corp™) certification, an international certification.

PROJECT SOLIT originally began its journey as SOLIT, Inc., with the aim of realizing a society where no one and nothing is left behind, including people with diverse backgrounds and the global environment.

In June 2024, SOLIT merged with morning after cutting my hair under the same leadership, and since then has continued its activities as an internal business initiative and project within the company. This B Corp certification represents international recognition of the values and practices that have guided these efforts to date.

What is B Corporation™ Certification?

B Corporation™ certification is an international certification awarded to companies that have been verified to meet rigorous standards of social and environmental performance, transparency, and accountability—not only how much profit they generate, but how they operate as a whole. It evaluates a company’s entire business across areas such as governance, labor practices, environmental responsibility, and respect for human rights, asking whether the company is truly acting in the best interests of people and the planet.

The Relationship Between PROJECT SOLIT and B Corp™

The entity that has obtained B Corp™ certification is morning after cutting my hair, Inc. as a legal corporation. PROJECT SOLIT is one of the business initiatives that has been nurtured within the company. Therefore, PROJECT SOLIT itself is not independently certified as a B Corp™. However, the principles and practices we have consistently pursued align deeply with the values underpinning the B Corp movement, including:

  • Inclusive design centered on people directly affected by social challenges
  • A commitment to changing structures and cultures rather than pursuing short-term outcomes
  • Building equitable relationships with producers and partners
  • A co-creation approach that avoids imposing “correct” answers

Certification Is Not a Goal, but a Starting Point

For us, B Corp™ certification is not a finish line or a declaration of completion. Rather, it marks a starting point—a commitment to continually question how we exist and operate.

PROJECT SOLIT, we do not intend to use this certification as a label or symbol alone. Instead, we will continue to reflect on our decisions and actions through our daily projects, conversations, and choices by asking:

  • Are we leaving anyone behind?
  • Whose voices are being heard, and whose are not?
  • Are we engaging with society and the environment with integrity?

Looking Ahead

PROJECT SOLIT will continue working alongside companies, organizations, and individuals to expand inclusive choices within society.

B Corp™ certification is one milestone that helps accelerate this journey. We will keep moving forward—pausing when necessary, asking questions, and engaging in dialogue as we go.

Thank you for your continued support of PROJECT SOLIT.

Comment from the Project Lead

—On the discomfort of “being right just because we are B Corp™”—

I’m Natsumi, Social Impact & Partnerships Director at PROJECT SOLIT.

Becoming a B Corp™ does not mean that we have become a “correct” or “perfect” company. If anything, this certification has reinforced our sense that we are committing ourselves to continue holding questions that do not have easy answers.

B Corp™ represents one standard for how companies can engage responsibly with society and the environment. However, meeting that standard does not automatically make every decision “good” or “right.”

Throughout PROJECT SOLIT’s work, we have repeatedly paused to reflect on questions such as:

  • How much consideration is truly enough?
  • Could a decision intended to protect someone end up excluding someone else?
  • Has “good intention” quietly turned into imposition?

To be honest, there are moments when the clarity and authority implied by the term “B Corp™” make us want to keep some distance from its apparent simplicity. Even so, we chose certification not because we seek perfection, but because we believe there is value in publicly committing to a posture of continuous questioning.

As PROJECT SOLIT, we will continue to start from the question, “How do we want to exist?” rather than “What should a B Corp do?”—and we will keep examining each decision carefully, one by one.
